5 Last Summer Activities You Can’t Miss

Summer is winding down and school is calling! Before you get into full-on school mode, enjoy a few last summer activities with your kids. With these activities, you can provide a great endnote to your summer. As a result, your child can sail into the new school year with strong, happy memories of summer spent as a family.

Here are some fun, easy-to-do ideas from us at Certified Nannies of America that you can enjoy before summer disappears:

1. One Last Barbeque

Hamburgers and hot dogs, grilled vegetables, or chicken: barbecues are a quintessential summer meal. Make plans to enjoy one last barbeque as a family before the summer is over. Go all out and make s’mores at the end. You might even make it a community celebration by inviting neighbors, your child’s babysitter, or friends.

2. Water Fight

Take advantage while the weather is still hot and enjoy a family water fight. Use water balloons, sprinklers, and squirt guns to get each other as wet as possible. Or, opt for a more organized version and simply play water games. Here are a few wet water games to try.

3. Staycation

Explore an area of your city over a weekend or even during a weekday! In a staycation, you enjoy touring and doing vacation activities, but in your hometown. Whether you visit a local museum or head to a nearby national park, these activities help you get to know what’s in your own backyard.

For those close to us in the Las Vegas area, you might plan a trip to ride the High Roller, a visit to the Coca Cola store, or a trip to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. One fun way to decide what to do on your staycation is to write all of your ideas on small slips of paper and then put them in a hat. Then, allow your kids to each pick one of the ideas.

4. Backyard Camping

Do you love camping but hate packing? Set up a tent in the backyard and enjoy camping at home! You can roast s’ mores on the fire, tell stories, look at the stars, and enjoy snuggling down in the tent. To make your camping experience even more realistic, consider going on a hike earlier in the day or cooking dinner on the grill.

5. Play Board Games

Plan a board game night to enjoy! Get out Monopoly, Candyland, Chutes, and Ladders, and any other favorite board games your family enjoys. Or, you might ask each family member to pick their favorite game to play.

To make the night feel extra special, plan some special snacks to enjoy while you play. For example, Chex snack mix, watermelon, lemonade, and other summer favorites are great options. With these last summer activities, you can end your summer with a bang! These last few opportunities for summer fun can help ensure your child enters the school year with strong, fond family memories.
