5 Children’s Books to Read For Fall

Image of a child during the fall season.

Last summer was scorching hot that even a hangout by the pool was almost excruciating. But fall.. Ahh… Fall. The season of falling leaves, cooler nights and days wearing cardigans are the best. And what better way is it to enjoy this season than to immerse yourself and your children with some fall reading?! It will help them love the season, and it will excite them about the holidays that are coming up. The following are books that will help them appreciate making leaf projects, making applesauce, keeping pumpkin seeds to grow for spring and so much more!

Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf by Lois Ehlert.

It’s a description of maple tree changing colors for every season. For families who have a maple tree in the yard, this is extra special for you!  Consider reading this with Leaf Jumpers by Carole Gerber along with The Little Yellow Leaf by Carin Berger.

Pumpkin Circle by Shmuel Thaler and George Levenson.

Who doesn’t like rhyming books? They’re fun and creates a way to let the imagination run wild. Pumpkin Circle is a really cool lesson to bring to the table especially when the kids are pumpkin carving. This book offers memorable pictures with a collection of words etched on young pumpkins that will be incorporated on its skin as it matures.

Giving Thanks by Jonathan London and Gregory Manchess.

A walk of a son and father will help children appreciate the beauty of nature and what they encounter along the way. From the sun to the moon, and crickets to frogs — it’s captivating to read the night before hiking!

Apple Farmer Annie by Monica Wellington.

You have no idea how many times we’ve read this to the kids, and they cheered for us to read it again. Usually pleasing, right? While children aren’t usually fond of books, it’s surprising to see them get excited for this one. This book is a fully-illustrated book of an apple grower who makes and sells her goodies at the farmer’s market.

The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree by Gail Gibbons.

An awesome relationship between a boy and his beloved apple tree. Kids can follow his adventure during the year as the boy enjoys the tree from collecting blossoms during spring to hanging popcorn garlands for birds to eat during the winter season.
