5 Family Night Activities to Enjoy

Do you wish you could spend quality family time, but aren’t sure how to make it fun for everyone? It can be tough to accommodate the interests and preferences of everyone in the family. It’s also tough to find activities that depart from your regular routines and don’t feel boring. If you’re out of ideas for making family night fun, this is the post for you!

Here at Certified Nannies of America, we know that quality family time is one of the best ways you can connect with your kids. Try one of these fun ideas for a fantastic family night of fun!

Movie Night Revamped

Bored of popcorn and a movie? While many families make a routine out of movie night, it can be fun to spice things up to make the event a bit more exciting. Here are some ideas for revamping your movie night:
• Do a cozy movie night. Grab all of the pillows and cozy blankets in your house and make a nest in front of the TV.
• Movie and a popcorn bar! Offer your feature along with small paper bags that your family members can fill with their own unique snack. Offer peanuts, M&Ms, raisins and other snacks to mix in with regular old popcorn.
• Dress up like a character from the movie! Or, color masks of movie characters. This is especially fun with historical films and cartoons. Then, invite your child to repeat lines their character says.

Game Night

Break out the board games and enjoy a game night! Alternatively, look up the best “minute to win it” games for a roaring good time. Most games require minimal preparation and result in lots of laughter!

Arts and Crafts

Get creative and work on an arts or crafts project together. You can all work together to paint a large canvas, purchase pottery painting sets, tie dye t-shirts or simply have fun coloring together. Seasonal projects are also fun. Some examples are making a wreath for the door (or individual wreaths for each family member’s bedroom door), creating seasonal table centerpieces, and creating seasonal snow globes (not all have to have snow!).

Water or Pillow Fight

Depending on the season and the weather, enjoy a pillow fight or a water fight! For your pillow fight, make sure you have a safe place and set some ground rules such as “no aiming at the head”. Water fights can be done outdoors with water guns, water balloons or just buckets of water!

Fun with Food

Put those chef’s hats and aprons on for a fun evening focused on food! Whether you have everyone prepare their own personal pizza, get everyone involved in chopping up the ingredients for tacos or decorate cookies, food can be a fun theme. Decide to “taste around the world” by cooking dishes from different countries or stick with your family’s favorites. In any case, you can make it a family experience by taking turns picking the meal, going shopping together and working together in the kitchen.
